The FREEDOM AND UNFREEDOM IN CRITICAL TIMES

LIBERALISM AND ILLIBERALISM IN CENTRAL, EASTERN AND BALTIC EUROPE conference took place on October 14-15, 2021 in Tartu, Estonia. The conference was jointly organized by the Leonid Nevzlin Center and the University of Tartu, with the support of the Nadav Foundation.
It was the first large offline event organized by the Nevzlin Center since the beginning of the world health crisis.
Scholars from 7 different countries assembled in Tartu: from Estonia, Israel, Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, Switzerland, and Hungary.
Intense discussions at the conference were devoted to both the present day (the impact of the crisis on various spheres of life and freedoms of civil society) and history (in particular, the complicated relationship between Jews and liberalism in a historical context).
The conference demonstrated the strong desire of the academic community to return to face-to-face discussions and lecture halls meetings after a year and a half of online activity.
