“The Walks” (formerly called “Wild Walks’’) Project with the assistance of the NADAV Foundation organized two edutaining camps for children and teenagers, most of whom had repatriated with their families after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine In the ANU Museum of Jewish People. The goal of the project is to establish a safe environment and a supportive community for camp participants and to help them adapt to life in Israel. Through theater and art practices, discussions on Jewish history and contemporary life in Israel, young individuals explore their identities and interact with the museum space.
The first 5-day Art Laboratory dedicated to the reconsideration of self-identity in new conditions was held in October 2023 just before the 7 October attack on Israel by Hamas. The consequence of the events held significant importance for participants, as the shared experiences, collaborative work, and the opportunity to express their feelings within the community provided vital support.
The second camp took place in ANU in April 2024 and marked the fifth such initiative by “The Walks” team. With Passover approaching, the theme of freedom was chosen for discussion. Participants explored various aspects of freedom through workshops on rituals, sound and language, and theater.
The demand for participation in the Art Lab has been so great that ‘’The Walks’’ and the ANU Museum are committed to continuing this work, engaging more and more teens in the creative life, history and culture of the Jewish people and Israel.
